Nelita Manego-Ramey

After a near fatal injury, Nelita Manego-Ramey has been a steadfast advocate for people with disabilities. She has served on the board of directors of several non-profit and city organizations. Living in an ableist world has brought on many challenges, but it has not stopped her. Nelita has competed in wheelchair races, traveled far and near, and popped waves while water skiing on the Pearl River Canal in Louisiana.

Nelita’s natural resilience has enabled her to come through this catastrophic injury unscathed. When not working as a registered nurse, she embraces the culture of her city, New Orleans, reveling in the local festivals, eateries, and cheering on the local sports teams.

After years of thinking about writing her journey as a disabled person and confronting her past, she finally completes her debut story. It gives an account of her life before and after her spinal cord injury.
Manego-Ramey is a graduate of Louisiana State University. She is an active Diamond Life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Nelita is a widow and has a daughter, Samantha.
